Tip 13: PhotoModeler’s Video Import

This tip demonstrates a recently added feature: Video Import. Video files can now be used as a source of photogrammetric information – stills are extracted from the video and used the same way photographs from a digital still camera are. The frame extraction can be done manually, with a small embedded video player in PhotoModeler Scanner, or with SmartMatch, the frames are extracted automatically for optimal separation. This video shows an automated SmartMatch project using videos and stills combined.

Video cameras (even HD ones) do not have the high resolution of most modern DSLR cameras so accuracy will be lower, but the convenience of taking many photographs easily can be a benefit.
