There are three navigation modes that control how the above controls act. This mode is set on the Advanced tab of the 3D Viewer Options.
• Classic: how PhotoModeler navigation has worked in the past
• Object: manipulate the object
• Fly: manipulate the camera
In the Object Navigation mode (in PhotoModeler alternate navigation, or with the SpaceMouse) you are manipulating the object or scene. In Fly Navigation mode you are manipulating the camera. Fly mode is useful for navigating a large scene point cloud (as you move around in the cloud like flying a plane). Otherwise, the Object mode might be more natural. For example, with the PhotoModeler controls:
In Object Navigation mode:
• moving the rotation control left rotates the front of the model to the left.
• moving the pan control left moves the model to the left.
• moving the zoom control up is like pushing the model away from you (so model gets smaller).
In Fly Navigation mode:
• moving the rotation control left rotates the camera lens left (so the model appears to move to the right).
• moving the pan control left moves the camera to the left (so the model appears to move to the right).
• moving the zoom control up is like pushing the camera forward (so model gets bigger).
Note that if you are using a SpaceMouse and the PhotoModeler navigation controls together, the Classic mode is not fully compatible with the SpaceMouse navigation. If you have a SpaceMouse we suggest switching to the Object or Fly mode so that PhotoModeler navigation controls are compatible. You can also set your default navigation mode for new projects in the Preferences dialog.
One of the largest differences between Classic and the Object or Fly modes is that with Classic mode, zooming is a change in the view volume size (like a change in FOV or focal length of the viewing camera), where as ‘zooming’ with the other modes is more like a ‘dolly’ – i.e. moving the camera.
Also note that with the SpaceMouse own setting dialog you can set up PhotoModeler commands to be mapped to their circular menus or to the Enterprise device soft buttons. Not all PhotoModeler commands are immediately available but if you need one that is not available, please contact PhotoModeler tech support.
