A reference for a measurement in a geographic coordinate system for measurements in height, elevation or altitude. The reference is often above an ellipsoid or a geoid that define the shape of the earth. Sea level references are common as well. See also Datum, Horizontal Datum, Ellipsoid and Geiod.
