Export to a CAD or Graphics Program

Once the three dimensional model has been created by PhotoModeler you can save your results and export the model to another program (you can also output a view to printer, file, or clipboard, see Output to Printer, Clipboard or File). The 3D model can be read by any program that can read DXF, 3DS, OBJ, VRML, IGES, 3DM, STL or RAW files. The section called Using Your 3D Model with Another Program describes this further.

If you want simple measurements, such as lengths or areas, you can get these directly from PhotoModeler, and for this purpose you do not need to export it to a CAD program. The section Measuring Features describes doing measurements within PhotoModeler.

Once the initial measurements and modeling are complete you can continue to work on the model in PhotoModeler by adding more points and lines and by re-executing the 3D processing step. Basically you can repeat steps 5 through 8 (as shown at the start of this chapter) as often as you would like. You can even repeat steps 1 through 4 if you wish to add additional photographs to the project.

In PhotoModeler you can also define a scale by indicating the known length of a marked line in a photograph. A rotation and coordinate system can also be defined for the object if that is important during your CAD modeling. The Improving your 3D model section goes into more detail on this subject.
