Automatic Video Frame Extraction

Use this option (and set the time frame) when using video from moving video camera capturing a scene with strong surface ‘texture’ for a SmartMatch project.  See Automatic Video Frame Extraction.  Typically, this option is used when using video from a UAV/Drone for a SmartMatch project.  When selecting the Automatic method, the range can be set to restrict the extraction to the portion of the video between the start and end times. This can be useful when, for example, a video may have an opening or closing segment that should be skipped.

The automatic video frame extraction feature first scans a video to determine the default frame extraction interval.  Once the interval is calculated, PhotoModeler will then automatically extract frames based on suitable matching of features in the image frames, add the frames to the project.  The Add/Remove Photos dialog will show frames as they are added.

Not all frames will be added to the project as this would add an unnecessarily large number of frames (video frame rates are often 30fps or more).

If the extraction process terminates before the end of the video, a warning will appear, but the frames up to that point in the video will be added to the project to allow you to process the suitable frames see Video Extraction Troubleshooting.

Since video frames do not contain EXIF information, no Camera Matching can take place. However, you can still add a video camera's calibration to your camera library and manually select the camera when setting up your project.  See Calibrating a Video Camera.
