Project Wizard: Geo-location Data Usage

This pane controls the usage of the imported geographical data (whether the data come from the image (EXIF header) or file, as selected on the Project Wizard: Geo-location Data Source pane. This pane only displays in PhotoModeler Premium - See Unmanned Aerial Projects. The two options are:

“control the positions of stations during processing”:  use the geo coordinates to define the coordinate system such that the model is modified/warped to fit the imported camera station geo-coordinates. See Control Imports. This is the recommended approach when camera station geo-coordinates are accurate and when performing UAV auto-calibrations.

“only define the project’s coordinate system after processing”: use the geo-coordinates to define a transform (where the model is fit to the coordinate system after processing without modifying/warping it).  See Setting Geographic Multi-point Transform. This is the recommended approach when geo-coordinates are approximate.

The “speed up the initial matching stage…” checkbox tells the program to use the geo-coordinates during the early stages of SmartMatch to determine photo overlap and therefore help set up the optimal array of images for full matching. In large UAV projects with 250+ photos and with nadir views this can help speed up the matching stage and helps limit the photos thereby reducing the likelihood of bad matches. This option is only enabled if the number of photos is greater than the threshold (50 by default) – contact Tech Support for instructions on how to adjust this threshold.
