Troubleshooting Shapes

Occasionally you will not get the 3D shape result you expect. Either the shape will be the wrong size or it will have the wrong orientation (position or rotation).  In this case follow these steps:

Review all the edge markings using the Shape Explorer to ensure they match the shape correctly. Do this by opening the photos that shape is marked on and the Shape Explorer, then select an edge on the photo and hit the W key (or right-click and use the “Expand selection to all windows” menu item) or identify the marks in the sub-selection highlight color (see Sub-selection Highlighting). You can verify the edge has been marked consistently. If it has not been, delete the edge mark from the offending photo (or adjust as appropriate).

Next reduce the shape to its basic relations. In most cases this means reducing the shape to have only a base, ground, coplanar or points-base relation. If this fixes the problem, add the relations back methodically to ensure none conflict or to find out which causes the problem.

Lastly you can use the Shapes Rebuild All tool to rebuild a whole shape project shape by shape to find out where the problem lies.
