Creating Lines

Lines are used to join Object Points. When marking on a photograph you can create lines and Marked Points simultaneously. Lines can be created in photographs, 3D Viewers or Point Tables.

To create a line in a photograph:

Pick up the Line Marking tool  , or select "Mark Lines" ribbon toolbar’s Create Tab.

Click this tool on the location to be marked for the start of the line.

A Marked Point symbol will appear at the location marked. A temporary line is drawn, from the current mouse location, to the Marked Point symbol that was marked.

Move the mouse to the location of the second point of the line.

The temporary line will follow the movement of the mouse.

Click the line tool on the location of the second point.

A second Marked Point symbol will appear. A permanent dotted line will be drawn between the first and second Marked Points. A new temporary line will be drawn, from the second Marked Point, to the current mouse location.

        Repeat steps 3 and 4.

PhotoModeler will continue to create connected lines and new Marked Points.

Click the right mouse button to bring up the menu and choose "End Draw", or press the ESC key, when all of the connected lines have been marked.

When using the Line Marking tool, line connections as well as points are recorded. Choosing "Undo" from the Quick Access Toolbar after a multi-point line has been drawn, undoes the whole line with all its points, not just the last point of the line.

The temporary line drawn during line marking disappears when the cursor leaves the photograph window. When the cursor is outside the window, you can scroll, move and resize the window and then return to marking the same line just by putting the cursor back inside the window.

Note: If the Line Marking tool is clicked on or close to an existing Marked Point symbol, the line end is "snapped" to that Marked Point and a new Marked Point is not created. Also, if a line is drawn on top of an existing line, a new line is not created.

Note: You can extend a line as it is displayed in the 3D Viewer using the line’s “3D Viewer Extension Percent” property (see Line Properties). The extended portion of the line will appear in the 3D viewer as a dashed, and the line length will not be affected for the purposes of line measurement.
