Objects that are selected are highlighted in a different color in the open windows as appropriate. The default selection color is red but this may be changed in the Preferences Dialog. See also Sub-selection Highlighting and Invert Selection.

To select an object in a Photograph it must be visible. See Visibility and Selection Control.
To select an object in a photograph, open the photograph and make this photograph the active window by clicking on the title bar or anywhere on the photo (off a mark).
To select one object in a photograph:
• Pick up the Select tool from the toolbar or choose "Select Items" from the ribbon’s View Tab or Quick Access Toolbar.
PhotoModeler will change the cursor to the selection cursor.
• Select the object by clicking the mouse on or close to the object.
PhotoModeler will highlight the object, by coloring it in red. The Status Bars will also update to show you information about the selected object.
Note 1: There is a priority for the selection for objects (for instance if you have a thin surface beside a line, it will be hard to select the surface because lines have higher priority). Using the ALT Zoom window or some other zoom so that the objects are farther apart on the screen will make it easier to select such objects.
Note 2: Some marks (curve marks, edge marks, Bent Tube marks, cylinder marks, silhouette marks) are composed of two pieces: points and the connecting mark. You can select both or either of the pieces. The operation you wish to carry out will decide which piece to select. For instance if you wish to move one point of an edge or a curve, you would select just the one point but if you wished to delete the whole mark, you would select the mark between the points. See also Sub-selection Highlighting.
To select more than one object in a photograph:
• Pick up the Select tool from the toolbar or choose "Select Items" from the ribbon’s View Tab or Quick Access Toolbar.
PhotoModeler will change the cursor to the selection cursor.
• Select the first object by clicking on it with the mouse.
• Holding down the shift key, click the mouse on the second and subsequent objects.
PhotoModeler will highlight any additional objects.
To select all objects within a rectangular region:
• Pick up the Select tool from the toolbar or choose "Select Items" from the Edit Menu.
PhotoModeler will change the cursor to the selection cursor.
• Click the mouse button when the cursor is not over any selectable item.
• Holding down the mouse button, drag the mouse to highlight a rectangular region.
• Let go of the mouse button when the region is the correct size.
PhotoModeler will highlight all marks, lines and surfaces that fall completely within the rectangular region.
To select objects in a 3D Viewer:
• Pick up the Select tool from the toolbar or choose "Select Items" from the ribbon’s View Tab or Quick Access Toolbar.
PhotoModeler will change the cursor to the selection cursor.
• Select the first object by clicking on it with the mouse. You may need to change the size of the 3D symbol size or change the view zoom to make the object selectable as when the object (esp. point, line, edge, curve) is thin it will be hard to select.
The object will highlight in red in the 3D Viewer (and possibly other open windows).
• Holding down the shift key, click the mouse on the second and subsequent objects.
PhotoModeler will highlight any additional objects.
• Note: You can also use the Region Select tool in the 3D Viewer.
To select Objects in a Table:
• Pick up the Select tool from the toolbar or choose "Select Items" from the ribbon’s View Tab or Quick Access Toolbar.
PhotoModeler will change the cursor to the selection cursor.
• Select the first object by clicking on it with the mouse.
The object will highlight with a black border around the row in the table.
• Holding down the control (Ctrl) key, click the mouse on the second and subsequent objects. You may also select a range of points by using the shift key as you click (then all points between the first selected object and the current click will be selected).
PhotoModeler will highlight any additional objects.
